Australian Sea Memorials...

Australian Sea Memorials provides services for either attended or unattended scatterings.

Attended
Relatives and friends accompany their loved one’s Ashes aboard the chosen vessel for Attended Ashes Scatterings. These take place at a location of your choice (subject to weather and safety conditions) and can be catered for. You are welcome to conduct the memorial yourself or we can conduct this for you. We are extremely flexible in how these services take place to ensure that your loved one’s desires are met.

The precise GPS co-ordinates will be provided so that you may re-visit the location should you so choose. Relatives and guests are invited to take part in the memorial service and may bring fresh flowers to cast across the sea, or we can provide these upon request.

Australian Sea Memorials have a variety of options and suggestions to ensure that the farewell of your loved one is a most beautifully remembered occasion. Whether you would like to include the graceful release of peaceful doves, your loved one’s favourite music, extra flowers or a celebration BBQ, we will ensure that the planning is as simple as possible for you.

Unattended
Sometimes, for whatever reason, family and friends are unable to travel to the location for a Sea Memorial Service of Ashes Scattering. In these circumstances we can provide a beautiful, dignified unattended service – A Skipper’s Farewell.

Unless another location is requested, the scattering service is performed on the breath-takingly beautiful Port Phillip Bay. This service is helpful and convenient for families and friends, who live out of the area or get sea sick, yet want to honour the wishes of their loved ones to be scattered at sea.

The Skipper and crew will carefully carry your loved one’s Ashes to the location and conduct the scattering and service.

The ashes are tenderly cast into the ocean. Ashes are never, ever combined with those of others and they are always dispersed separately.

For added peace of mind, we will confirm the Ashes have been scattered by sending you a letter of confirmation, along with a special plaque or certificate. This plaque or certificate will include details including your loved one’s name and the date that the scattering took place. You will also be provided with the exact GPS location and, if requested, we can provide photographs. A video of the memorial scattering is also available.

The unattended Ashes scattering service is our most economical option. If this is your preference, a loved one’s Ashes may be posted in Australia using Australia Post. We strongly suggest that you send them via Registered Mail. Australian Sea Memorials accept no responsibility for breakages or loss of items whilst in the Australia Post system. Please ensure you use adequate packaging and be certain that they are safely wrapped. Please note, Australia Post is unable to insure Ashes and will not accept responsibility but will accept them to post at your own risk. Please contact us for full details to arrange the shipping of a loved ones Ashes.

Remembrance Voyages
There are bound to be special occasions where family and friends especially miss their loved ones. You can revisit the exact site of original Ashes Scattering simply by providing Australian Sea Memorials with the GPS coordinates of the site’s location.

View from Beach or Pier
An alternative to the unattended service for family and friends who want to witness the scattering of Ashes but do not want or are not able to be on board the vessel is a viewing from the beach or pier.

We can organise a location along our great expanse of stunning shoreline to enable family and friends to gather either on the beach, pier or headland whilst the vessel will be just a short distance away from you out to sea.

The Skipper will bring the boat to a complete stop and then signal via the vessel’s horn when the scattering is about to commence. The Skipper will attend to the dispersal of the Ashes and the exact GPS location will be recorded.

Following this, the Skipper will circle the boat 3 times – in honour of the deceased, the family and life moving on – before returning to port.

Family and friends may take the opportunity to cast a flower or two onto the water or release doves or balloons from the shore.

Pet Ashes Scattering
Australian Sea Memorials is not only here to help you farewell those people most dear to you; we also provide an unattended scattering service for your beloved pets.

As with our unattended Ashes scatterings for people, the Skipper and crew will conduct pet Ashes’ scatterings in the most respectful manner. The GPS coordinates of the scattering site will be provided to you along with a special memorial certificate.
